Pandemic Response & Revised 2020 Season

Dear Friends,

In a new plan for Opera Edwardsville’s 2020 season, OE will pivot to a completely virtual season. Pre-existing plans for September and December concerts at the Wildey have been cancelled or reconstructed due to state and theater restrictions, complications for international travel (affecting several performers), and also to ensure the safety of all artists and audiences.

As the famous saying goes, "The show must go on!" We are pleased to announce a continued commitment to serving the community through cultural enrichment and arts education with a revised season for 2020, which will still feature OE's signature events.

It is thanks to many wonderful sponsors and community partners that we have been able to pivot and reimagine OE's 2020 educational programming and third annual holiday performance at the Wildey Theatre. We are grateful for the continued commitment of many individual sponsors and our presenting sponsor, Stifel who has supported us since our founding in 2018. We are also grateful to have the generous support of the Edwardsville Rotary Club, which has sponsored OE's educational activities in a bold three-year commitment.

We also look forward to new ways of interacting with established partners including the Wildey Theatre, SIUE, and the Edwardsville Public Library. A silver lining to this period has been the wonderful partnerships which have come out of the necessity to innovate. With excitement for this season and future programs we welcome new partnerships forged with the SIUE Arts and Issues Series, the Edwardsville Children's Museum, the SIUE Music Education Department, and Once Films. Indeed, the show will go on.... Online!

It is thanks to the commitment of several OE sponsors that we are able to provide cancellation fee to all artists from these programs. We are grateful to the following sponsors and their generous donations to OE including Stifel, Dr. Theresa Elofson, Marian and Mike Smithson, and Suzanne L. Wagner.

Moving forward, we are hopeful that previous sponsors will consider donating the value of their sponsorship. We value every contribution made to Opera Edwardsville and hope that new and returning audience members will consider supporting OE with a donation to enable our continued impact on the community. A great deal of effort has gone into ensuring the safety of all artists and performers who will come together for Opera Edwardsville's 2020 activities. I hope you will enjoy these performances from the comfort of your own home schooling or holiday gathering!

Sincerely,

Chase Hopkins

Opera Edwardsville Founder & Artistic Director
